Aguas Callientes / Machu Picchu 01.03.06 - 02.03.06
back to home
We took the train from Cusco to Aguas Callientes, which is the last stop before Machu Picchu. We spent the first day in cafes and of course the hot springs from which Aguas Callientes gets its name. Our plan was to beat everyone to the site early the next morning. As the Inca Trail is closed in February the only other people you get are the daytrippers from Cusco.
Of course it was pourring down with rain at 05.30 the next morning so we delayed the 1,5 hrs walk for another hour.
06.30 we left as the rain had cleared. The path runs along the river for 20 mins and after that its 1km straight up the mountain in steps. We where exausted by the time we reached the top but it was worth it. There were only approx. 50 other people there until 11 o´clock wenn the daytrippers started to fill the place. By that time we were ready to leave.
