Rurrenabaque
15.02.06 - 20.02.06
back to home
We changed our travelplans and went to Rurrenabaque in the Bolivian Jungle rather than going to the Peruvian one at the end of the trip. Getting there was an adventure itself as we flew in an 1 Prop, 12 seat Chesna. The flight takes you from La Paz over the Cordillera Real (Snowmaountains) and then pretty much straight down to the Jungle (Grasslandingstrip) which is on about 2-300 m.

We booked a 3 day tour to the Pampas as there are less trees and therefor more chance of seeing wildlife. Also the river we were on had Pink River Dolphins you could swim with if they were in the mood. They are bright pink when young and then turn grey as they grow. Other animals encountered were: Turtles, Snakes, Capuchin and Howler Monkeys, Capyabaras, Spiders, Moskitos. We also went horseriding and searched the swamps for Anacondas which we never found.

We also took a daytrip to the Jungle in the Madidi National Park. There we encountered a anteater at the Rangerstation. It was a handrearred orphan which comes back every day for its milkration and then wanders back off into the unknowns. At the lodge they had a spidermonkey, which came out of captivity. They hope he will find a new group and wander off. We didnīt see much wildlife in the morning. But in the afternoon we went to a Macau cliff. They dig holes as nest. There must have been about 30 breeding pairs. That alone was well worth the trip.

Next day we flew out with a couple of hours delay due to a rain downpour. We spent one night in La Paz before catching the bus to Copacabana on Lake Titicaca the following morning.
